International Volunteer Joins the Earth Care Ghana Family

Earth Care Ghana is delighted to welcome Roxanna, who has travelled all the way from Australia to join our International Volunteer Programme this year. Her journey from one side of the world to the other is already bearing fruit as she settles into the daily rhythm of our reforestation work here in Ejisu.
Rather than easing in slowly, Roxanna has dived straight into the heart of our conservation efforts, beginning at the very first stage of a tree’s life: the nursery. She has been getting her hands dirty in our vegetative propagation nursery, working alongside partners from the National Tree Seed Centre (NTSC) at CSIR-FORIG (the Forestry Research Institute of Ghana).
From Seed to Forest
Through this hands-on work, Roxanna is learning firsthand how every single tree in our reforestation efforts starts its journey in the nursery. Each seedling is carefully nurtured and tracked before eventually being planted back into the landscapes that need it most — restoring degraded land, rebuilding habitats, and strengthening the ecosystems that communities across Ghana depend on.
This is the kind of experience that no classroom can fully replicate: understanding, soil under your fingernails, exactly what it takes to grow a forest one seedling at a time.
Why Volunteers Matter
Our International Volunteer Programme brings people from around the world into direct partnership with local experts, researchers, and communities working on the ground. Volunteers like Roxanna don’t just observe our conservation work . They become part of it, contributing labour, energy, and fresh perspective while learning sustainable land restoration practices rooted in Ghanaian expertise and institutions like CSIR-FORIG.
It’s an exchange in both directions: volunteers gain skills and insight into tropical reforestation, while Earth Care Ghana gains dedicated hands and passionate advocates who carry the story of this work back home with them.
